If you have a topic to discuss you must be on the agenda prior to the meeting.

Please contact Rachel Walker or Stef Thompson to be added to the agenda.

Hello Hale Families!

Can you believe it is nearly March?! Wow.
We have had a taste of spring with the warm weather and it is hard to know whether to wish for green grass or one more blast of snow.

As always, the newsletter this month is packed with info: lots of events coming up and lots of acknowledgements to our awesome volunteers.

Get ready for the Science Fair!

Students in grades 2-4 will be presenting their science projects on Thursday evening at Hale. The Science Fair will be open for friends and family at 5:30 p.m. All students and families are invited to come see the projects and enjoy the (indoor) school picnic.https://mlsvc01-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/21134587be/4c56ffb7-d658-4ce6-8656-13d5f78e88b8.png

All 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade Science Fair participants need to
set up their Science Fair projects between 5 and 5:30 p.m. in the gym. Participants will be shown where to set up their display board inside of the gym.

Volunteers needed for the school picnic

The school indoor picnic will be on Thursday, March 2, in conjunction with the Science Fair. We are looking for volunteers to help run the pizza and refreshment area. The times are 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. or the whole time if you are interested.

Please contact Terri Link at tlink48@gmail.com or 612-437-1825 if you are able to help in any way. Thanks so much!

March Household Item Collection

The PTA is sponsoring a drive to collect essential household items for those in our community. We used to do a food drive, but have learned that the greater need is for household items.

Each grade will have one collection day and a list of items. This will help us organize the supplies. On collection day, please send items with your student or drop them off in the school office during the day. Thank you for your generosity!

March 13: Kindergarten   Bar soap, body wash

March 14: First Grade       Shampoo, conditioner

March 15: Second Grade  Deodorant, chapstick, lotion

March 16: Third Grade     Diapers, wipes

March 17: Fourth Grade   Hand soap, dish soap

Sat., March 18: distribution day: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

If you can help to organize and distribute the items to families on this day, please contact rachel_hale@robandrachel.org.

PTA spending update

As always, the PTA minutes are available on the Hale website. They include detailed financials. The PTA board is very aware that the dollars it manages are YOUR dollars. We feel it is an honor to be stewards of the generous gifts from this community.

Last month, we used funds for several classroom stipends, to cover the costs of field trips (e.g. Zoomobile is coming to 1st grade), to buy the display boards and ribbons for Science Fair, to buy t-shirts for the Mileage Club managed by PE, and to treat the teachers to breakfast on their professional development day.

Volunteers needed

Below are the current volunteer needs. As you can see, volunteers are essential to ALL PTA events, big or small. Without parents stepping up to give their time, energy, and talents, there would be no science fair, book cafe, or art adventure. Many of our volunteers who have run events for several years are ready to move on to new things. Hale needs:

parents to lead the science fair (promote event with fliers, distribute display boards to students, set up event, arrange picture taking at event)

parents to lead the plant sale (promote sale with information fliers and order forms, place order with garden center, distribute plant orders to families)

Please contact the PTA co-chairs if you are interested in helping.

Hale Spirit Wear

If you missed the spirit wear sale earlier this fall, now is the time to get the Hale gear you wanted!

The February/March sale will include different designs and items from an independent vendor -sweatshirts & Under Armour T-shirts for the boys, pink T-shirts & hoodies with rhinestones for the girls and several new staff selections as well.

Flyers detailing the Spirit Wear options were sent home last week. The sale will run now until Monday, March 6 -- that's only one more week! Please send your completed order form to the Hale office. You may also order online at www.etsy.com/shop/DypwickCustomApparel. Items will arrive at Hale near the end of March and will be distributed to student classrooms.

We will also have a table with Spirit Wear samples to look at outside the gym at the Science Fair this Thursday, March 2. Support Hale by purchasing and wearing Hale spirit wear!

Save (and change) the date:

Culture Night on Thursday, May 11 from 6-8 p.m.

The Hale PTA is excited to collaborate with school staff, students and their families in creating this educational and fun event that celebrates the similarities and uniqueness of all peoples and cultures of the world! Culture Night

Held in the Music Room, Cafeteria, and Gym, students will be given the chance to earn a stamp in their provided Passport as they visit family-sponsored Country Booths, enjoy ethnic cuisine, and experience sights and sounds from around the globe

As we begin our planning, we do need your help! Does your student participate in a music and/ or dance group that may be interested in performing at Culture Night? If so, we would love to hear from you! In years past, we've welcomed groups such as Irish Dance, Brazilian Martial Arts, Taiko Drummers, Greek Dancers and many more! In addition, we are looking for volunteers to help us plan and organize, as well as families to host a country booth or make an ethnic dish. We'll provide information and guidelines to help you along the way. Get in touch with us to make this year's Culture Night the best yet! Thank you!

What is the Hale-Field Foundation?

The Hale-Field Foundation has existed since 1995 and is organized exclusively to serve Hale and Field schools. The Foundation includes school principals, teachers, parents and community members. It is open to new members. Members meet once a month to consider funding requests from teachers and administrations and to implement the mission of "expanding educational opportunities beyond the traditional boundaries of public education."

The Foundation helps fund many programs at both schools, including: Hale's 4th grade band/strings program, Field band, GEMS and science bowl programs, and more.

The annual Spring Fling is a joint effort of the Foundation, Hale PTA and Field PTA. The 3 organizations split the profits from this fun event and proceeds go directly back to the schools. The Spring Fling, an adult-only fundraiser party, will be April 29 this year.

The next foundation meeting will be March 21 at 6 p.m. in the Field Media Center (across the hall from the Field main office). Contact president@halefield.org for more info.

Spring Fling volunteers needed

Many volunteers are needed to make the Spring Fling a successful fundraiser. The event will be April 29. Volunteer opportunities include: set up and clean up, decorating, running auctions, running games, ticket sales, food, and bar service. If you are able to help, please email: president@halefield.org.

We are seeking volunteers to plan the games for the evening.  This involves recruiting and coordinating volunteers to host different game booths at the event, organizing set up and clean up of the games, and selling game tickets.  Please contact Rachel at rachel_hale@robandrachel.org if you are able to help out.  Thank you!

Thank you corner

Thanks to Terri Link for organizing the Barnes & Noble book fair and to the volunteers who staffed the Hale table that night.  Thanks also to Principal Fitzgerald for reading stories and to the band students for performing.

It was a chilly and slippery morning but it was great fun thanks to Lori Kaufman who organized winter walk day and all the volunteers who shepherded kids in and handed out stickers.

Thanks to all those who came out to Roller Garden to show off your rollerskating skills and school spirit!

All students enjoyed relaxing in the Hale Book Cafe.  Thank you Stephanie Loes for coordinating and to all the volunteers who served hot chocolate and read stories.  Thank you to Sheilagh Johnson for being such a great book cafe host.

The teachers and staff enjoyed a delicious meal on conference day thanks to Anne Jensen and the many parents who delivered food and treats.

Thank you to Amanda Hamilton and Heather Longmore for all their hard work putting together Art Adventure.  Without all the parent volunteers bringing the art to each classroom, this program would not be such a success.  Thank you! And thanks to Molly Timmerman and the crew of volunteers who put on Arty Party last week!
